[09-08-2010]

Rising Demand:

cheap callsThe worldwide mobile broadband market including 3G and 4G networks technologies will reach 1 billion connections during 2012, according to a report from Pyramid Research. Mobile operators are likely to face substantial challenges in devising strategies to cope with this rising demand. Although the majority of the 1 billion connections include mobile data-cards, mobile broadband smartphones are the current focus of operator marketing and business plans. Smartphone vendors and internet powerhouses such as Apple and Google are currently better positioned than mobile operators to profit from mobile internet, and the move to 4G will create another refresh cycle for devices and 'supercharge mobile broadband traffic growth', according to Pyramid Research.

Transaction-based Business Case:

The report added, “Mobile operators planning 4G networks need a new transaction-based business case that allows them to to make more money from mobile Internet services, content and applications." Berge Ayvazian, senior consultant at Heavy Reading and director of 4G Consulting Practice said, "Operators planning to deploy 4G networks face many technical, strategic, and business complexities in how to manage their network evolution and critical questions on how to get a return on their investments."
